FAQ

 Building Permits

The City of Orleans has a Zoning Ordinance in effect and requires building permits for the construction of such items as decks, fences, additions, yard sheds, buildings, moved-in structures, and any work to be performed in the Right-of-way, etc.  Violation of this Ordinance may result in fines of $100 per day per violation.  You must obtain a permit prior to any construction.

Building permit requests and questions can be directed to City Clerk @ 712-330-4512.

 Garbage Pickup

Garbage pickup is provided by the City of Orleans for residential services only.  No containers should weigh more than 50 pounds.

Pickup is curbside on Mondays and Thursdays May thru September and Mondays only October thru April.  Garbage is to be placed by the curb by 7:00 a.m.

A City recycling bin is located at 140th Street, Orleans, one block South and 1/2 block East of City Hall.

NOTE: Town and Country garbage cans are provided to each residence by the City of Orleans free of charge.  Orleans currently does not bill residents for garbage pickup.  In the event a residence is sold, the bin should remain with the property.

 Landscape Waste

Dickinson County has established a Landscape Waste site to dispose of your landscape waste.  It is located 1/2 mile East of the Catholic Church in Milford on the A34 Blacktop.  For questions and hours of operation call 712-338-2549.

For Orleans and Spirit Lake residents you can now take your yard waste (leaves, brush, no large trees) to the green waste site at the edge of town for free.  This is for RESIDENT'S ONLY.  NO commercial dumping allowed.  Please contact the City of Spirit Lake for hours of operation.
